The First Punk Single

If you were still a schoolkid or not even born when punk started, you might think that the Pistols’  ‘Anarchy in the UK’ was the first punk 7″. But forty years on, you can rely on BBC’s ‘The One Show’ to keep its viewers fully informed about why The Damned with their release ‘New Rose’ on independent Stiff records could beat the hugeness of The Sex Pistols on EMI. The speedy turnaround and low production standards of Stiff were the punk values that gave The Damned that honour.
