My Perfect Cousin

We probably all had one, if it wasn’t your actual cousin, then it was the school-friend or goody-two-shoes neighbour. There always seemed to be someone to whom all teenagers would be unfavourably compared, either by their parents or teachers. If only I could be as tidy as this person, or as studious as that person, then life would somehow be better. I was a teenager, I took it personally. Did they really think boring Kathleen from down the road was better than me? She may have clean shoes and look after her bike, but when her parents go out she steals cigarettes and paints tippex on her fingernails. If only they knew.
